Lot 31136 > Basel. City gold Goldgulden (Ducat) 1640 MS65 NGC, KM97, Fr-50, HMZ-2-73h. An extremely rare type that is seldom seen at all, and especially so in such lofty condition, displaying a slightly different central cartouche design than is depicted by the Standard Catalogue of World Coins. Simply superb, each element of this design sharply struck and fully apparent, and with satiny, lightly contrasted surfaces that only serve to boost the eye appeal of this delicately detailed type. The last example we offered, graded NGC XF Details (Damaged), and with an identical cartouche design, realized $2,880 including Buyer's Premium in our September 2019 sale.
