Corinth was one of the most famous cities of mainland Greece, and because its situation on the Isthmus, joining the Peloponnese and northern Greece, it enjoyed an ideal trading position. Its famous pottery was exported all over the Mediterranean world. The coinage depicts the divine winged horse Pegasos caught near the fountain Peirene by the Corinthian hero Bellerophon.
