From a European private collection; Tradart 1994 (4) lot 148; Tradart 1992 (2) lot 162; Frank Sternberg 1978 (8) lot 460 This denarius of Tiberius (Pax) is commonly known as the 'Tribute Penny,' the coin to which Jesus referred when he was discussing the payment of taxes to the Romans. The word 'penny' is from the 1611 King James translation of the Bible, and was adopted since the penny was the standard denomination of the time.
