From a private collection; Tkalec 1998 (23 October) lot 333; former U.N. collection, Bank Leu 1989 (48) lot 426 Formally known as Flavia Julia Helena, Saint Helena was the mother of the emperor Constantine. She ranks as an important figure in the history of Christianity and of the world due to her influence on her son. In her final years, she made a religious tour of Syria Palaestina and Jerusalem, during which ancient tradition claims that she discovered the True Cross.
