The head of most frequent occurrence on the obverses would seem to be that of the Siren Parthenope. In her honour, annual games were celebrated. The man-headed bull on the reverses is thought to be the River-god Acheloös, the father of the Sirens, whose cultus was wide-spread throughout the Greek world.
