France, French Historical Medals, Napoleon I (1804-1814), Battle of Waterloo 1815, Rogat (Bronze, 33.28 gr, 42 mm) Laureate head right NAPOLEON BONAPARTE Rev. The heroic imperial eagle fighting against four vultures WATERLOO / 18 JUIN 1815. Plain edge. Bramsen 1636. PCGS SP63
Perhaps the most well-known and iconic conflict of the Napoleonic Wars, the Battle of Waterloo lives on in collective memory as a tipping point, Napoleon's last stand. This medal captures Napoleon's fear, his feelings of being cornered; the reverse depicts the French eagle, surrounded by attacking vultures, a harsh metaphor for the Seventh Coalition.
From Baron Desnoyers collection, who was the engraver of King Charles X.
