Perhaps the most well-known and iconic conflict of the Napoleonic Wars, the Battle of Waterloo lives on in collective memory as a tipping point, Napoleon's last stand. This medal captures Napoleon's fear, his feelings of being cornered; the reverse depicts the French eagle, surrounded by attacking vultures, a harsh metaphor for the Seventh Coalition.
