XF-AU edge mark The Abbey of St-Maurice d’Agaune has always been renowned for its continual prayers and is the oldest continuously populated in Europe. Struck in the 7th century, only a few tremisses are known to exist for diverse types. Our specimen is from an unknown pair of dies, on which the name of the moneyer is not clearly identifiable. This coin offers an expressive portrait of St Maurice in a style never encountered before.
